VW would have designed several versions of its software cheating – Motorsport.com, Edition: France (Press Release) (Register)

Sources close to the case and quoted by the Reuters news agency shed interesting light on the supposed device falsify the results of pollutant emissions from diesel engines tests.

For seven consecutive years Volkswagen used the cheating software on its engines 1.2 TDI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI in order to alter the test results, and it seems now established that some officials have spent much time sophisticate this software.

Three sources close to the case have told Reuters they had developed more than one version of the software. Since four different engines have apparently been affected by pirated software, it shows that deception is much more complex than what VW was willing to admit so far.

According to experts of the automotive industry, it is not only some engineers who participated in the illegal scheme, as several versions of the software were required, which necessarily required much effort.

Interestingly, Arndt Ellinghorst, Analyst consulting firm Evercore banking ISI, says the fines to be paid by VW just depend on the number of employees involved in the scandal. It will also be the same with the required changes to senior management of the company and the decisions made by investors.

Volkswagen has already lost 25% of its stock market value and according to what is revealed Credit Suisse, the scandal of ‘dieselgate’ will cost between 23 and 28 billion euros to VW.
