Volkswagen: A second software intrigue authorities – ZDNet France

Black series for Volkswagen? The American authorities in any case, suspicions of a new embedded software on diesel engines to be put on sale as of 2016. As reported by the New York Times, Volkswagen has publicly revealed the existence of a second software comparable to the first software capable of handling emissions of the vehicle in order to deceive air pollution tests.

The revelation of the existence of this second software spoke at the hearing Michael Horn, president of the American branch of Volkswagen before either House of Congress. The software in question falls into the category of Auxiliary Emission Control Device to which belonged the first software: software that can interact with cars carbon emissions, but the investigation has yet to determine if it was used by the manufacturer for skew control tests.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Volkswagen has suspended the procedure for placing on the market of vehicles equipped with this software. The manufacturer prefers not to communicate about the software and let the investigation take its course.

Auxiliary Emission Control Device type of software have legitimate use and can be used by manufacturers as part of agreements with some countries to allow the machines to increase emissions of carbon dioxide in specific circumstances. If new software is similar to the above, it could lead to new proceedings against Volkswagen, which would be added to those already initiated following the discovery of the first software.
