Maarch passed the mail to free software – Les Echos

For ten years, Maarch has opted for free software. Born in 2004, the IT services company of Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) began by selling document management solutions based on commercial software. “Pretty soon arose the question of real customer needs” explains Laurent Séguin, marketing director of the firm’s 14 employees and € 1 million in revenue.

Maarch then chooses to “open” his house software so that customers and users can adapt it to their liking. The bet is risky. Not only the company allows anyone to edit its product whose sources are public, but, in addition, it becomes free. In return, customers and users must make public their contributions and free software. For its part, Maarch, which animates the user community, sells his expertise, training and specific developments. “We seek the customer who needs a function that we want to develop and is willing to pay for it” , summarizes the manager.

Experience sharing

Specifically, the customer therefore pays only specific developments they need and benefits the accumulated experience of those who preceded him. Prices are reduced accordingly. In its document management and archiving products the firm has added a mail processing system that will allow jurisdictions such prefectures to comply with new rules that require them to meet strict deadlines, otherwise their silence is consent.

“We’re on projects 600,000 letters a year,” says Laurent Séguin, whose products “manage” as the millions of bills Telecoms operator or the tens of millions of recommended shipped every year by a state agency. Volumes that exclude with extended functions like in this town where the system handles letters, faxes, emails … the mayor’s Sticky and can meet any medium. What to consider in Maarch turnover of 10 million euros in 2020 with 50-100 employees. Its subsidiary Dakar already opens perspectives on the French market.
