Conf / demo: GNU Guix and software deployment, Monday, November 9 … – LinuxFr

Ludovic Courtès, maintainer of GNU Guix project passes Rennes Monday, November 9th, and took the opportunity to present to the Rennes libriste community the Guix and GuixSD projects, a package manager and an innovative distribution including transactional support.

GNU Guix, or how to keep the software deployment under control.

“But it worked nickel just before the update …” You been through this? Want more control over software deployment? Could go back, as with Git? You doubt that creating a virtual machine image or Docker software is the solution?

Well, come chat GNU Guix, a package manager “purely functional” in the line of Nix that seeks to address these difficulties. Guix allows updates and returns back “transactional” and the coexistence of several software environments, as discussed with demos. We will see how the concept extends to the deployment of complete operating systems with GuixSD, distribution based on Guix and bidouillable wish.

Ludovic Courtès is also a research engineer at INRIA center Bordeaux and free longstanding contributor software (Guile, GnuTLS …).

This will be the MCE in Rennes, Gurvand room, Monday, November 9th from 19h to 21h (approximately). Entrance through the Gurvand street.
