Intel has announced that its software tool called Assistive Context-Aware Toolkit (ACAT), used by the physicist Stephen Hawking, is now available under open source license (Apache 2.0) for PC.
Stephen Hawking, who suffers from an almost total paralysis due to a degenerative disease, ACAT uses to communicate. The tool uses a face recognition function to determine what the user wants to express. A webcam and other sensors are necessary for the proper use of the solution.
“Our open source platform developed by Intel Labs will help sick or disabled people have full access to the capabilities and applications to their computers, through very limited interfaces adapted to their condition, “the company said on the website devoted to the solution.
