Good news for the gendarmes PGHM Meeting . These will now be assisted in their research by GendLoc software dedicated to geolocation in the mountain rescue.

This software was developed by an avalanche dog handler at the PGHM Versoud Isère.

Specifically, GendLoc allows lost hikers to be more easily spotted by the police, thanks to the GPS function of their smartphone.

The software allows for more narrow searches based on weather, trail conditions or canyons.

After receiving a text message, in which the applicant agrees to be geolocated, rescuers can track the GPS point of the latter on a computer, greatly facilitating searches.

Indeed, as explained by a policeman PGHM Meeting in Fagers magazine, “GendLoc prevents us from wasting time on research, the most time-consuming part of the aid”. “And also we save time for the entire organization for help with our partners, SAG and UAS” , he adds.

Another benefit of the software, it allows the person sought to redirect, thanks to the GPS point to a trail located a few dozen meters from its location.

The question remains of network coverage because all data passes through the internet. But no worries for the PGHM Meeting because our department is pretty well off about it, except for some white areas, particularly around the volcano.
