Microsoft software change – BFMTV.COM

Open. This word sounds like the revival at Microsoft since the departure of former CEO Steve Balmer there just two years. A word that also emphasizes Alain Crozier, president of Microsoft France, to describe the microphone of BFM Business, the share of the new Group CEO Satya Nadella. The latter operates indeed an unprecedented revolution in the editor in which the freemium became the watchword.

Previously, the business model of the company was based on the sale of licenses. At purchase, the customer becomes the owner of the software and not pay anything to Microsoft, except that it only wants to expand access to its software to other employees. It was the Premium that Satya Nadella replaced by the freemium .

Now, Microsoft offers, whether for the cloud Azur or the Office suite 365, are freely accessible, but only in their basic version (basic 15 GB storage for the cloud offering and a limited number of editing documents for Office 365). The customer must purchase a monthly subscription for full access to software features.

Office 365 has replaced Windows as key brand

Free is one of the legs of this strategy of openness, the other being the marketing of the firm beyond the Microsoft ecosystem. “We drive Office 365 everywhere”, told Satya Nadella when taking office. Microsoft software must be found everywhere and Office 365, by its reputation, is the spearhead of this strategy. The days of the Microsoft suites were available only on Windows. Demonstrate its determination, Office 365 has been marketed on iPad only two months after the arrival of Satya Nadella.

And it works. The results of the last quarter of 2015, the income of the Office suite climbed 70%. The figures of the branch cloud bound them 140%. These results are all the more notable that the overall sales of Microsoft’s disappointing, down 10.1% year on year, to 23.8 billion dollars.
