Volkswagen: new software problem! – The Computer

Still in the heart of the scandal over rigged the tool for measuring the pollution of its vehicles, which it will perform an update early 2016 to 8.5 million models, the Volkswagen manufacturer faces a new software problem this time affecting fuel consumption in many vehicles.

Belote and rebelote! While his image has been severely scratched in recent weeks because of deception on proven tool for measuring pollution, Volkswagen is again embroiled in a scandal. And again, this is software that is in question.

This is the German newspaper Die Welt which reports this information: in this case, the software that manages the recovery of kinetic energy in the battery. The direct consequence would be a negative influence on the consumption of certain cars. Failure concerns “ many combustion engine automobiles ,” the newspaper writes, without giving specific figures.

A spokesman for the group confirmed the existence of this problem. Volkswagen would itself acknowledged that new default at a meeting with the Commission of Inquiry, while trying to gather information on the scandal of falsified emissions. The vehicles concerned should also be recalled forward. “ If a software error influences consumption and therefore CO2 emissions of a vehicle, it must be asked whether the outstanding authorization (of the vehicle) is still valid ,” explained our colleagues a member of the inquiry commission.

This is a new thorn in the foot that Volkswagen is recalling 8.5 million vehicles to correct the rigged software pollution control. Each customer concerned will be contacted for an operation whose duration may vary depending on engine but which take about an hour.

The Audi A1 1.6-liter diesel will spend about 1 hour in the garage …

The Volkswagen Group presented to the German Federal Office for movement of motor vehicles (KBA) concrete solutions. They concern currently 1.6 2l engines, which represent the majority of the affected cars. In the case of the 2.0 TDI engine, for example, simply a software update to the garage. However, it will be more complex for the 1.6 Diesel engines (which are for example equipped the Polo or the Audi A1), which require mechanical intervention.
