The US government on Friday asked Lenovo computer users to remove their devices with software, according to the Department of Homeland Security, a cyber security risk.
The US call for the withdrawal of software on Lenovo PC because of a risk on cybersecurity. The software, called Superfish and installed on some Lenovo PC since 2010, modifies the research results and can disrupt secure data exchange using SSL, according to US authorities.
“The systems with the software already installed will continue to be vulnerable as corrective measures have not been taken,” said the Department of Homeland Security. Adi Pinhas, CEO of Superfish, says in a statement that the software developed by the California-based company aims to optimize Internet searches.
introduced the vulnerability “inadvertently”
Its vulnerability was introduced “accidentally” by the Israeli company Komodia, who designed the application singled out by the Department of Homeland Security, he adds. Komodia declined to comment on the accusation. Lenovo, the world’s personal computers, says not install the software on his PC Superfish. This decision was taken, according to the Chinese group, after complaints from users but not because of a security problem.
“We have carefully examined this technology and have found no evidence that could feed safety concerns,” reads a statement from Lenovo.
