By pre-installing adware SuperFish on some of its laptops, the Chinese manufacturer Lenovo has incurred the wrath of its users during the last week. But it appears that this adware too intrusive – and displays the pub when you surf online – lurks in many software published by Komodia society. And although SuperFish appears to have been disabled, it is still installed on many computers from the world. Yet it is possible to completely uninstall without having to format the machine. MetroNews explains how to detect if you are concerned and how to get rid permanently.
1. Check that SuperFish is installed
To do this, log on to the site LastPass which instantly show if the adware is still on your PC.
2. Uninstall the software
If the result is positive, go to the Windows control panel, accessible from the Start button. Go to the software uninstallation item and right click on Superfish Inc VisualDiscovery. In the context menu select Uninstall.
3. Uninstall certificates
Even if the software is no longer on your PC, it is better also uninstall the corresponding security certificates. To do this click the Start button and paste into the search bar “certmgr.msc” and open the software. Click the Advanced tab, then click View certificates. Scroll down the list to find Superfish Inc. and click the delete button. Finally, confirm your choice.
With these few simple steps, you will be certain that your computer (Lenovo or otherwise) will no longer have any control over the display of advertisements on your computer.
