Lenovo, one of the most popular global manufacturers of computers and tablets, has been caught with his hand in the bag. Since last August, all models shipped worldwide included an advertising software, a “adware” pre-installed by default on Windows.

Adware SuperFish was responsible for displaying advertisements in your Web browser sometimes in the results pages of search engines, even in the middle of the sites visited.

Even worse, the security of connections is challenged by this little software that contains a “proxy” capable intercept flows and replaces the security certificate of the sites by its own certificates.

inactive SuperFish on servers since January

Criticized from all sides throughout the week, Lenovo has reacted Thursday night and said in a statement (in English) SuperFish that belonged to the past because it was disabled remotely from its servers in the month of January. But if the connection between the servers and the pre-installed software is broken, adware is still present on the devices.

The ThinkPad range, fixed PC or smartphones are not impacted by manufacturer Chinese (formerly IBM). Lenovo specifies that SuperFish is no longer installed by default in its products.

A simple method to remove

In case of doubt on the PC Bought at Christmas, you can check for SuperFish LastPass.Même on the site if it is inactive, it is best to completely remove a few manipulations. You must first uninstall like any other software in the Windows Control Panel and destroy the certificate he created.

And that is where the matter becomes a little more technical for beginners. In the Windows search bar, type certmgr.msc to access the certificates control panel. SuperFish should hide in the folder “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” right click is enough to remove it. For a final check on his presence, return to the site of LastPass
