The French software offers a great resilience to the current slump. According to the fourth edition of the Top 250 Digital Syntec which covers a range of more than 350 French software vendors, the consolidated turnover of $ 9.2 billion in 2013, up 6%. Certainly growth is half that of last year, but remains strong in a weak economy. “ The software has become a heavyweight in the French economy,” can rejoice Vanryb Bruno, president of publishers Syntec Numérique. For 2014, the forecast is for 7% growth.

The French market is extremely concentrated. Three-quarters of revenues are generated by 7% of publishers. Conversely, actors whose turnover is less than € 10 million – or the majority of the market – do not realize that 4% of overall turnover. Past the 50 million, few publishers that are not redeemed.

These publishers are creators of both software and jobs. With more than 10,000 jobs in two years, the sector’s workforce totaled 107,437 assets. “ These new jobs based on the declarative and not all are based in France,” tempers Franck Sebag, a partner at EY, author of the study. And hiring intentions are rosy. Three out of four editors consider bringing in 2014 and overwhelmingly developers (68% of the desired profiles.)

The 2013 edition was pointing a small international actors, things work out. Whatever the size of the publisher, from abroad in sales increases. Lower among smaller players, it reaches 50% for companies in excess of 100 million euros in revenue.

The other engine of growth, c is of course innovation. French publishers spend nearly 15% of their turnover on research and development. And the R & amp; D are largely based in France (75% of the sample). Support for this innovative effort, the success of research tax credit can not be denied. Nearly 79% surveyed reported using interlocutors. This led in 34% of cases … a tax audit. Last year, Syntec Numérique was moved by this zeal of the tax administration would have called into question the very existence of some startups.

As regards the economic model even publishers, SaaS further breakthrough. The share of sales related to online software is 17% against 11% in 2012 and 8% in 2011 This type of distribution is dominated by a young publishers (less than 50 M € turnover) SaaS native born.

Skip license to this subscription, in fact, a sudden shock for publishers already installed. To assist with this mutation, Syntec Numérique a bid for funding called “Money Saas” which seeks to pre-finance the transition from bachelor to SaaS to restore color to their cash. On the technological priorities, publishers cite – unsurprisingly -. Cloud and SaaS (81% of responses), mobility (73%), security (47%) and big data (31%)

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise enters the top three

Regarding the classification itself, we note some small changes in the hierarchy. If DS and Ubisoft largely dominated the ranking, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise goes directly to third. A quick visit. The business division of the OEM, combining hardware and software, will release the rankings since the next year was recently sold to China Huaxin. Note also the entries in the top 20 of Neopost (12th) and Bull (19th) each develop a significant software business
