The German carmaker Opel, a subsidiary of General Motors, “categorically” rejected the software handling suspicions about the engine of one of its models, issued yesterday by a Belgian media.
“Opel categorically refutes allegations expressed on antennas VRT (…) that Opel dealers could have changed a Zafira Tourer 1.6 diesel a management software in order to change emissions, “said the manufacturer in a statement.
Monday, the Flemish channel VRT that Opel had said was conduct by its dealers to update software on the Zafira Tourer 1.6 diesel, “without informing the car owner about the nature of this update.”
The chain, relaying research conducted by a journalist himself owns a Zafira, also reported NOx emissions vehicles concerned to higher standards. These emissions are, however, returned to below the authorized ceilings after the interventions in the garage.
The whole area is now under close supervision. Several manufacturers have been challenged since the outbreak of the scandal, either by the media or the environmental organizations, but all have strongly denied having used a faker software such as VW.
