For the fifteenth consecutive year, the Festival in free initiative is restarted by April, in partnership with the Delegation to the uses of the Internet and free Agenda. Between Friday, March 6 and Sunday, April 12, 2015 included in a friendly and festive dynamic events will take place throughout France to allow the public to discover free software. The optional theme of this edition is “the priority to free software everyday.”
Since 2001, April invites groups of users of free software and associations promoting such software to organize, for the arrival of spring, discovery events for the general public. For 2015, the initiative was revived for the fifteenth consecutive year in partnership with the Delegation to the Internet uses.
Free Fest 2015 can especially be an opportunity for cyber-bases, spaces digital public (EPN) and other learning areas computing and its issues, as well as for groups of users of free software to initiate a regular partnership. These user groups are intended to introduce free software and its applications to the general public through local actions. These actions are not only complementary to the activities of a Cyber-base space or EPN but their goals is often integrated into their missions.
The free software is software that everyone can use, study, copy, modify and redistribute. Through events in the Free Day, the public is invited to discover the benefits of this software: values of mutual assistance and cooperation, a common good accessible to all for sharing of knowledge, a living community ready to help newcomers.
Once again, a collaboration with the Agenda Libre is in place, this calendar is used to identify all the events organized as part of the Free Fest.
Around March 21, numerous events will therefore be: discovery workshops, lectures, debates, celebrations of installation1, projections, meetings, etc. The exhibition will learn applications such as office suite LibreOffice.org, VLC media player, the Mozilla Firefox web browser, operating systems (GNU / Linux, * BSD …) and projects such as the free encyclopedia, collaborative Wikipedia, the free collaborative OpenStreetMap mapping and many others.
