Tadaaaam, turnaround in the genealogical world: the Family Tree Maker software does not disappear eventually, despite the announcement by its editor Ancestry in December! Although Family Tree Maker software is not the most used genealogy in France, the announcement of its expiry was still moved the ancestors research community. This is probably the intensity of the reactions that forced Ancestry search has a more honorable way out of a dry and definitive closure of a tool used by thousands of genealogists.
Ancestry has “actively explored ways to develop and support Family Tree Maker” and pulled out of his hat a solution he had not thought of and yet seem obvious. The software was picked up by another publisher! Certainly, more modest than the juggernaut of global genealogy online, the buyer, MacKiev is known for his work in the field of software. This is already the developer of the Mac version of Family Tree Maker for years. Good news MacKiev therefore takes the stick and will now also look after the Windows version.
This new agreement means that current users will see no interruption in service, will handle MacKiev updates to the software and its new versions on both OS. The publisher will market and maintain the tool and all its options, including access to Ancestry Hints, looking upward, saving the ascendancy tree, etc. In addition Ancestry announces it has reached another agreement in stride, one with RootsMagic, too genealogy software company. It will be possible for users to connect their portal Ancestry ancestry with RootsMagic by the end of 2016. RootsMagic also provide access to Ancestry Indices, seeking descent, and the safeguarding of the tree on Ancestry.
