15.0 Kodi is finalized and available. Just over six months after the previous version, the reference multimedia environments enjoys an iterative update, which does not bring any major changes, but many welcome developments.
Kodi 15.0, codenamed “Isengard” (a reference to the Lord of the Rings ), essentially improves the interface:
- Kodi now present the chapters of a movie or a video file as a mosaic of screenshots. The new version brings in passing the management of chapitrage MKV files.
- In the same vein, soundtracks and multiple subtitles are now presented as a list considerably facilitating their selection.
- Kodi 15 also hosts a so-called adaptive seeking , adaptive scan. The pitch of the rapid advances increases with the number of successive pressures. Now, five pressure on the right arrow will advance to 10, then 30, then 60 s, etc., and more simply than five times 10 seconds.
- In terms of interface, finally, conclude with overhaul of the Extension Manager, which allows to make a customized multimedia center (skins, scrapers, online services, etc.).
Behind the scenes XBMC successor moves from the FFmpeg library 2.4.4 to version 2.6.3, released last May. The only major new version 2.7.2 just released this week, too late to be incorporated in this version of Kodi. Almost all audio and video codecs are anyway supported, including HEVC, codec Ultra HD era decoding software , greedy in power and energy. But Kodi opens HEVC hardware decoding, initially on Windows via DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) with a compatible GPU.
Finally, Kodi fills a multitude of bugs and made table shaves the past by shedding obsolete code and rarely used functions. Some platforms are discontinued in return, such as set-top boxes based on an earlier version to Android 4.2, Apple TV 2nd generation ( via aTV Flash) or the old Mac mini with a version earlier than OS X 10.7 Lion. But point out in this regard that a EUR 100 miniature computer such as an Intel Compute Stick with Windows or similar appropriate for HEVC, or a Raspberry Pi 2 to 50 euros (including housing and transformer) for those with OSMC stick in H.264.
