Racketeering software is Mac Users – The World

The virus was designed to lock the system of its victims and then ask for a ransom.

Researchers have discovered a racket software, a “ransomware,” which has crept into the installation files for Transmission, a BitTorrent client (download tool in peer-to-peer) popular for OS X, the latest version of Apple’s operating system.

A first attempt in 2014

The software for users Mac and Transmission, named KeRanger was surreptitiously slipped on the official website of BitTorrent client, and an update is already available to erase all traces of the virus. This aimed to encrypt the hard drive of his victim in order to prohibit access, but seemed to require an internet connection to function.
