The Linux Foundation launches IPC, a software foundation for the smart grid – Silicon

At the opening conference Embedded Linux and OpenIoT Summit 2016 San Diego, Monday, April 4, the Linux Foundation has announced the launch of the CIP project (Civil Infrastructure Platform). This platform based on the Linux kernel and other open source projects provide the software foundation needed for supervision and delivery of essential services to society: electricity, water supply, health, telecommunications, transport, etc. .

Several companies have already given their support to the project include: Hitachi, Toshiba, Siemens, and Codethink Plat’Home. “With the collaboration and open source development, developers will be able to build a common framework that will support some of the most important functions of society for decades to come” , said Jim Zemlin the Executive Director of the Foundation dedicated to the promotion of the free OS and collaborative developments in business.
