For its new terminals, SNCF chose software “home … – L’Usine Nouvelle

1300 terminals SNCF benefit since this morning, Wednesday, March 16, a new software that improves their performance. Next September, a rejuvenation campaign PLC will be started.

Who has not bitched removing his tickets on a train terminal? A touchscreen that often asked to take it to two or three times to confirm his choice or enter a username. Not to mention a remarkable slow implementation.

Yet 36 million operations were carried out last year on these machines … for a turnover of 306 million euros. These terminals are used in 20% of cases for a ticket purchase. Most often ordered to remove a ticket on the website or to exchange last minute.

The installed base from 15 to 20 years has aged, especially the software that already has ten years. “ It dates from a time when we had not even a digital experience as developed as now with touch tools like tablets” , says Antoine de Rocquigny, director of operations and customer service at Expedia.

  Software development internally

Since this morning, Wednesday, March 16, 1300 controllers spread over 460 locations in France are equipped with new software that brings speed, ease of use and more information. The new ergonomics makes the touch screen. Less than two minutes to buy a ticket for immediate departure and one minute for the withdrawal of a reserved ticket. “This is two times less than the old version,” says Antoine de Rocquigny.

IT teams SNCF working on this project for two years. The development has really taken a year. For six months, the terminals were tested. And “the rocker took place tonight at once successfully in at least 95% of cases,” welcomes the director of operations and customer service at Expedia.

  The design changes this fall

Besides direct access to dedicated business customers, this software allows to buy and renew its commercial cards and subscriptions, buying international tickets. A comparative display gives the best price available and, for an immediate departure, departure track is displayed. In case of delay, the customer receives an SMS.

Starting in September, all of the terminal park will be redesigned gradually until March 2017. IER (Bolloré Group), the terminal provider, will install a touch screen larger, a new electronic payment terminal (TPE ), a bar code reader and a NFC contactless reader.

An investment that amounts to 10 million euros. Including the new software deployed this March 16, SNCF will have invested a total of EUR 25 million in modernizing these terminals. What, finally to inexpensively improve an image somewhat battered in recent months …
