Ekylibre: free software also grows among farmers – ZDNet France

At the recent Agricultural Fair, alongside the traditional giant cows alignments and cute sheep (with the signs “do not touch the animals” that nobody respects, poor animals …), the tech was also taking place . Drones here and robots there, and also … libristes.

In a joint stand called digitalis Farm (the 1901 law association created in January meets five start-up), and co-founder technical Director Brice Texier introduced me during my visit Ekylibre, originally an ERP project co-financed in 2008 and 2009 by the European Union and the Aquitaine Regional Council.

software “all in one” for farmer

It aimed to create a free software for small farms. End of 2014, David and Brice Joulin Texier decided to create the Ekylibre company to market the project, which is done in January 2015. Incubated by Banquiz, the start-up accelerator on free software in the Aquitaine region (since January region Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes), the young company is located in Gironde, Pessac.

Ekylibre is a comprehensive farm management software. “All operating data is stored in one place, which brings governance in the exploitation”, explains Brice Texier. Hence also the choice of a free license (GNU AGPL 3): “It guarantees that the operator will never prisoner free ensures users their freedom They know using our software in case. they will need to access the code or modify it, and it is a guarantee of continuity because although we arrived, open source code provides access. “

” All in one “software Ekylibre includes accounting, customer relationship management and partners, traceability of production, business management (purchases and sales) and inventory management. It is available for download or SaaS free or 29.90 euros per month HT with more space and support.

The designers want to turn Ekylibre to connected objects, eg for monitoring plant health product cans (report when they have to be recovered, counting product sprays, namely with GPS which were made these sprays …), in partnership with KeyField.

the data collected via the smartphone of the operator, with the Zero mobile application, are automatically transferred to the Ekylibre software at no additional seizures.

Community 260 people

The community around the software boasts more than 260 users, testers and contributors, especially with exchanges via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Among the farmers who use Ekylibre, “the largest has more than 2,000 hectares in the Landes – mainly vegetable, much of which bio”.

The company Ekylibre eight people, and account recruiting additional developers (particularly knowing the free Ruby on Rails framework). It covers the fiscal balance in the first quarter of 2017.
