Toyota Ford SmartDeviceLink integrates the software into its vehicles – Automobile & L’Entreprise

Toyota has announced the integration of open source software for Ford – the SmartDeviceLink – allowing interface the smartphone to the car in its own vehicles. And he is not alone in thinking there since OEMs QNX Software Systems (BlackBerry subsidiary) and also adopt the UIEvolution. As for manufacturers, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Honda, Subaru or Mazda would also be interested in the software according to Ford.

SmartDeviceLink is the software on which the platform is designed SYNC AppLink. Once integrated into the vehicle, the Ford software allow the user to reach applications smartphone using voice recognition or the car’s controls. The real benefit of a smartphone app common communication interface is that it creates a standard in the industry said Don Butler, executive director of Ford, support services and connected vehicles. Ford makes it available as open source software, because all industry clients will gain if everyone speaks the same language.
