The German regulator automotive (KBA) has not considered “problematic” the presence of Volkswagen disputed software in diesel engines of big cars circulating in Europe, said Tuesday the Director General of the manufacturer in Britain.

To the US authorities, VW used the pollutant emissions control device called “Auxiliary Emission Control Device” (AECD) to skew the results in favor of anti-pollution tests.

The US Agency for Environmental Protection (EPA) warned last week that this software is not only found in mid-range models but was also present on V6 diesel 3.0-liter fitted to some high-end models of brands Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen.

In a letter to a committee of British Parliamentarians published Tuesday, Paul Willis, who heads VW activities in Great Britain says that the KBA found no problem with the presence of this software in big cars.

“We just confirmed that the KBA does not consider the use of this technology in the European Union as a problem and (it sees) therefore compatible with the regulations in force, “wrote Paul Willis.

The KBA was not immediately available for comment.
